The language of music knows no bounds.
Born and raised in the city of Indianapolis, Ivan’s journey into the realm of music began within the walls of the church. There, he discovered his passion for melodies and harmonies as a member of the church choir.
At the start of middle school, Ivan’s musical palate expanded when he picked up the cello. Ivan struggled to learn the cello at first, and was encouraged by his classmates to quit. Despite ridicule, Ivan persisted and consistently improved over time.
Ivan then attended Pike High School, which has a rich performing arts department that allowed him to flourish even more. It was during this time that Ivan’s high school orchestra teacher, Martha Murphy, played a pivotal role in broadening his perspective on the cello. Mrs. Murphy introduced him to the limitless possibilities of playing beyond the confines of classical music.
Ivan’s musical journey continued at Indiana University, where he became a proud member of the IU Soul Revue, under the direction of Dr. Tyron Cooper. This experience further enriched his understanding of various genres including jazz, gospel, R&B, and experimental music; and allowed him to refine his vocal ability.
Today, Ivan finds joy in covering a wide array of songs, ranging from the classics to trap. Whether it's the soulful tunes of jazz, the familiar sound of gospel,or the smooth vibes of R&B, Ivan strives to create a musical experience that resonates with diverse audiences.
